- Old Tyranid models in Tyranid Armies -
Still existing unit types
Hive Tyrants
exept for being much bigger now, the tyrant's weaponry remain unchanged.
and with the latest codex the Bonesword are avaible again!. so, simply ignore
the smaller size of the old tyrant and just use it for what it is!
Carnifexes
exept being smaller, the original carnifex have lots of similarities
with the 3rd edition carnifex and also the same options as the 4th ed. the older
carnifex can be used perfectly as elite-choice carnifexes.
Warriors
being very different in the sculpt, the warrior models still can use the
same weapon choices and so are no difficult to theme into a new tyranid army.
Lictors
they remain the same, and should stay that way!
Gaunts
theres some new options in the latest editions but the models can still
be used just as they are
Raveners
those did not exist before the 3rd edition tyranids, but have had a
change since. they do now always have 2 sets of CC weapons, but can still use
a ranged weapon mounted in its thorax. so, you can use models with only CC
weapons to represent a ravener, still counting as having ranged weapons.also if
you chose to model a weapon on its arms, you can count those smaller claws/limbs
on its lower body as scything talons, and have either rending claws or a second
set of talons on the torso.
Gargoyles
the weaponry are unchanged, you can use either editions of those
Rippers
rules are almost unchanged and it should work fine with any edition
Ripper swarms
Genestealers
exept for some new really good rules the genestealers are all the same
in general
Biovores
modelwise you can use any edition biovores, it fits the rules anyways.so
do the spore mines
Zoanthropes
exept that they have lost their legs the rules still allow you to field old ones
without any problems
Passt unit types
Genestealer Hybrids
hubrids are man-sized and have ranged weapons. the obvious counts-as choice is
Gaunts. spinegaunts in specific. the spines don't have living umunition and so
can count as autoguns while the twin-linked effect represent the multiple shots.
Genestealer Magus
he is a psycher and a character,so what to use him as? well the obvious choice
is the zoanthropes. they are psychers with powerfull powers and have two wounds
to represent being a character.
Genestealer Patriarch
this unit isn't really gone. it was in the 3rd edition but returned in the 4th
ed as the Broodlord. it is a very good idea to use them as Broodlords, and will
look good if you are using the older genestealer models with it.
Zoats
the good old slaves of the hivemind. those where the more though to find a place
for, however i did find 3 different uses.
* Biovores. a big beast using a gun to launch mines. a cool idea, but recuire
to beef the weapon up a bit to make a nice convertion, the brood telepathy rules
works fine with this aswell as those are no true tyranids.
* Tyrant guards. what could be better than sacrificing slaves insteed of real
tyranids?. all you need is to beef them up with some armor to make sence with
the 3+ saves.
* the last bus best way is to have them slaved by warriors. tyranid warriors
(especially lash whips) can be combined with zoats as a unit to represent slaves/slavers.
count them as warriors, don't bother about they being synapse, remove them as
casaulties first. ecuip them with fleshborers(as they normally have) or use
deathspitters.either one works!.
